(no subject)

Rest assured, I have about twenty tabs worth of entries to reply to, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth! And don't plan to!

However, I have a question for mix-makers on my f-list!

Give me tips? Where do you upload things? How many tracks is typical?

Thanks in advance!

Guys!

To continue my Hulk spam:

Look at this! It's kind of Hulk-meets-Winnie-the-Pooh, and I'm probably more into it than I should be, considering I was never really into Winnie the Pooh.

Make up, The Hulk, Fandom thoughts

I've been writing a few Avengers drabbles, which I'll post later, and I just ordered some make up off Amazon, so I'm in a pretty good mood! The make up is basically one green lipstick and some green and purple eyeshadows. Are you sensing a theme here? You should be. It got me thinking, because this is obviously a thinly-veiled, "HEY GUYS DO YOU KNOW HOW INTO THE HULK I AM, DO YOU?" I'm really into The Hulk. Anyway, I was thinking:

How do you guys say you are into things that your RL friends don't necessarily know you're into, without actually saying it?

This could be fandom stuff, or anything really, I suppose! I'm really curious! For me it's definitely clothes and make up.

This is the make up, in case anyone wanted to see!

Here, pictures! )

The hammer on your thumb

Oh boy, if I knew how to make fanvids, this would so be happening. I think Avengers, and probably Thor-related, you know, because of the hammers. I mean:

"... Then something went wrong
And the feeling was so gone
Slipped the hammer on your thumb
..."

And:

"... I thought you were the handy-man
I laid my life in your hands
..."

You know what I mean? Someone needs to do this.

Rec me your favourite Bruce Banner fics, please?

More on this later. And yes, I'm probably going to get all flaily over The Avengers now. No regrets.

Art - Women of HP

I'd like to think my art, style wise, has gotten a little more consistent over the course of my hiatus. But I'll let you, darling f-list be the judge of that. At the very least I think I've improved with colouring. However! Enough of the boring self-reflection and onto the arts!

Character(s): Millicent Bulstrode
Rating: NWS! Nudity, but you can't see much.
Medium: HB pencil and Photoshop.
Notes: This is a surprise illustration for [livejournal.com profile] wantsunicorns, because she's been a really good, patient friend the last few days, beta-ing on the go and helping me with my fear of putting words down. Oh, and also because she wrote an amazing Millicent/Luna fic for [livejournal.com profile] femmefest. This was inspired by the opening scene. Darling, I wanted to rec your fic the second I started reading it, I hope the fact that I loved it so much to illustrate a scene from it is enough to convince everyone else to go read it!

Millicent Bulstrode )

Character(s): Roxanne Weasley
Rating: G
Medium: HB pencil and Photoshop.
Notes: I am finally, finally starting to get really into next-gen. Lord knows it took me forever, but here we are. Here is Roxanne! She is wearing Gryffindor colours, because she'd totally be in Gryffindor. *nods*. Next up, Lucy Weasley and Teddy Lupin.

Recs!

Wings to the Weak, Grace to the Strong by [livejournal.com profile] tristesses, Ginny/Cho, NC-17, 2803 words. Warnings for rough sex and PTSD.

Summary: They've left the war behind, but every now and then, it catches up with them.

Why you should read it: So, this was my gift (kind of, but also not really - I had to drop out for health reasons) for the [livejournal.com profile] femmefest exchange, so I'm possibly biased since it was written to my prompts, but holy wow this is good fic. The sex is really expertly done, managing to be both rough and tender at once, and the effects of the war on both characters are quietly heartbreaking. I recommend reading it, even if you don't normally go for femmeslash - it's short, easy to read and both chilling and funny.

Excerpt: "I am," Ginny says, and the corners of her mouth curl, catlike, "very threatening."

Midsummer Night's Dream by [livejournal.com profile] magnolia_mama, Ginny/Harry, NC-17, 8342 words.

Summary: Midsummer was always the most difficult time of year. There would be moments when Ginny became absolutely convinced someone was standing right behind her, but whenever she turned around, no one was there.

Why you should read it: Okay, so obviously I'm on a bit of a Ginny kick, but you can't help feel for her reading this. She's stubborn, haunted and obsessive, and obviously self-sufficient. The writing is what makes this, really. No two words are heavy-handed, and the atmosphere is so tangible it feels heavy in the air as you read it. I'm also, admittedly, a sucker for the dark, nautical imagery.

Excerpt: Sleep had eluded her, until the pale imitation of night gave way to dawn's grasping fingers and Ginny dragged her taut body and aching head out of bed to cope with the long day that lay ahead.

More to come!

Algae Icons!

So, after posting about that giant algal bloom just before, I was lamenting the lack of appropriate icons for such posts. Then I spent the next hour or so making some, so, here, have some icons made from pretty algae illustrations:

200 KM Long Algal Bloom Seen Off Antarctica!

So this kind of sums up about half my interests:

(via [livejournal.com profile] ontd_science)

An algal bloom has emerged near Antarctica, so large that it’s not just visible but prominent in satellite images.

The bloom, roughly 200 x 100 kilometers, has shown up in images taken by NASA’s Modis instrument on the Terra satellite.
It has emerged off the coast of Mac Robertson Land and was identified by scientists from the Australian Antarctic Division.

The bloom is expected to spark a local feeding frenzy for everything from krill and other zooplankton, through to fish, penguins, seals, and ultimately whales, according to research scientist Mark Curran.

While not certain about the cause of the bloom, Curran notes that small traces of iron in Antarctic snow blown out to sea could partly be driving the event, since iron is a nutrient to algae.

The bloom has been observed for 20 days, and researchers hope it will last long enough to be observed by the research vessel Aurora Australis, which is currently voyaging between Mawson Station and Hobart, Tasmania

Queer Sci-Fi Geeks

Um, I know I just posted, but:

"Outland focuses on the lives of a group of gay sci-fi fans and has been compared to The Big Bang Theory.

Outland's producer Laura Waters said: "[Production company] Princess Pictures is proud that closeted science fiction fans will finally have a voice and that a full family of gay Australian characters can go where they never ventured before - prime-time television."

Outland is due to begin in Australia in February and is expected to air in the UK later in 2012."

Um, um, um... HELL YES!? Seriously, I just watched the first episode and it's great! If you're in Australia and can watch things on ABC iview, it's here. Otherwise it's on ABC2 at 10.30 p.m on Thursdays. Have any of you already seen it? Did you love it? Hate it? The ABC should pay me to advertise, seriously.

"Uh, there's a Dalek in your sugar bowl!"

Genius.

Art Dump/Sketch Requests #1

Something I found really helpful and challenging over the last couple of days was drawing things friends requested! So, without further ado, I give you horklumps, Agent Dale Cooper, Luna/Cho & Nargles (kind of), [livejournal.com profile] sordid_humors' twink, and a couple of other drawings.

Sketches! Fandom & Non-Fandom! Image Heavy! )

So, in light of that being fun and useful, does anyone have any requests? They can be fandom related or completely random, whatever!
