I've been writing a few Avengers drabbles, which I'll post later, and I just ordered some make up off Amazon, so I'm in a pretty good mood! The make up is basically one green lipstick and some green and purple eyeshadows. Are you sensing a theme here? You should be. It got me thinking, because this is obviously a thinly-veiled, "HEY GUYS DO YOU KNOW HOW INTO THE HULK I AM, DO YOU?" I'm really into The Hulk. Anyway, I was thinking:

How do you guys say you are into things that your RL friends don't necessarily know you're into, without actually saying it?

This could be fandom stuff, or anything really, I suppose! I'm really curious! For me it's definitely clothes and make up.

This is the make up, in case anyone wanted to see!

The green one!

I wear t-shirts! Also, I tend to tell people about my geeky interests because most of my friends are geeks.

Love the lippy!

Most of my friends are geeks too, but about different things (which I also get really nerdy about!), like politics and video games and Amy Winehouse. Hah. But not geeks in a way where I feel like we could sit down and have a conversation about the representation of disability in superhero movies or Jeremy Renner's arms (omg, those arms).

T-shirts are good! Got any good ones? I'll admit I'm more of a collared-shirt wearing person!

It comes in the most hilarious packaging (http://www.costumersnetwork.com/prodimages/DE32GR_G.jpg), haha, but I'm really excited about it! That colour in the picture there is possibly different.

I work at an uber-conservative law firm, with about zero percent room for uniqueness or eccentricity. But I blast my music in my car every morning to give myself some energy to face the day, and my music definitely says "I'm not into what you're into." It's mostly Placebo and it's mostly songs about getting high and picking up rentboys.

Aw, that sucks. I reckon when I finish my degree and actually get a job somewhere (gasp!) I'm going to customize the shit out of my lab coat! :P

Blasting music! Yes. Good. Very good.

HEY that is very cool make-up :)

I have no advice on subtly showing you're into stuff, I'm afraid, what with my RL friends all being uni friends I'm shameless with and people I met via LJ.

It is! But it hasn't arrived yet. :(

Oh, I need no advice! I am surprisingly skilled at wearing things that are basically cosplay, but without anyone else knowing that, ha! See: planned outfit (green lips, eyeshadow, beige pants, purple shirt, "boring" glasses, etc.).:P

I kind of wish a lot of the time that my RL friends were shamelessly geeky about things, and they are, but different things. Actually, this person I am kind of seeing (it is complicated!) is probably equally geeky about things, but she doesn't know I am, and I don't know how to bring it up! So, maybe I am just really shy about sharing particular bits of myself IRL, lol.

(HEY!)

My friends here in the library science program are all Doctor Who fans too, so I'm fine discussing that with them. I actually met one of my friends during orientation because I noticed she had a Tardis sticker on her phone! The main thing I don't talk about is my love of roleplaying on forums...even though I spend a good 2-3 hours a day roleplaying, I've never told my friends about it. I also feel like they wouldn't understand the extent to which I interact with people online in general, or the concept of internet friends...once I mentioned that a livejournal/fandom friend might get to visit me, but I told them she was my pen pal. that seemed more socially acceptable for some reason. >.>

I think people draw different lines. And the temptation, for me at least, is to just casually mention fandom-related things all the time - I have to work really hard to keep that impulse in check because none of my friends know about it/probably would get bored hearing about it!

What do you roleplay?
