Queer Sci-Fi Geeks

Um, I know I just posted, but:

"Outland focuses on the lives of a group of gay sci-fi fans and has been compared to The Big Bang Theory.

Outland's producer Laura Waters said: "[Production company] Princess Pictures is proud that closeted science fiction fans will finally have a voice and that a full family of gay Australian characters can go where they never ventured before - prime-time television."

Outland is due to begin in Australia in February and is expected to air in the UK later in 2012."

Um, um, um... HELL YES!? Seriously, I just watched the first episode and it's great! If you're in Australia and can watch things on ABC iview, it's here. Otherwise it's on ABC2 at 10.30 p.m on Thursdays. Have any of you already seen it? Did you love it? Hate it? The ABC should pay me to advertise, seriously.

"Uh, there's a Dalek in your sugar bowl!"

Genius.

ETA: If the video doesn't work, try this link.

I'm very very sad that the video won't play for me. D: It's probably because I'm not in Australia.

But, nonetheless, it sounds amazing.

I haven't seen BBT! That's just what the article said, hah.

Does this link work? (http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid871166280001?bckey=AQ~~,AAAAACkAQxo~,JbFjHxgqCuak3gK2T7u3p0eDyamGmIu2&bctid=1244401486001) Let me know, because I can edit the post then accordingly!

It certainly does work! Now I want to watch this show. >.>

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
How does the trailer match up to being compared to BBT? I'm curious, because I keep seeing gifs and things from BBT everywhere, and it looks like it could either be great or terrible.

*Accio's you to Australia*

[identity profile] treeperson.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't match up at all, from what I can tell. I've only seen a few episodes of BBT, but this show seems very different, even if just from a cinematography standpoint. BBT has joke-punchline-laughtrack studded with catchphrases and stereotypes, combined with 2-3 camera angles maximum. Outland, however, seems delightful.

*flies through air to other side of world* Actually, on that note, I might be going to Aussie land in April. >.> It's still up in the air and completely dependent on both my financial situation and my employment situation, but a friend is getting married and I've been invited. It's exciting, though I'd probably die of heat if I went. :3

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
April! You probably wouldn't die of heat. Which part of Australia are you (possibly) going to? It's generally a lot cooler in Melbourne by April!

[identity profile] treeperson.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it depends on what you define as "a lot cooler". XD The couple in question live in Adelaide, so that's where the wedding is being held and where I'd be going.

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, you should come to Melbourne! I think Adelaide might be a bit warmer, but I'm not sure, as I've only been there once and it was in July (i.e it was really cold!). Here is a thing from last year (http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/month/vic/archive/201104.melbourne.shtml), to try and answer your question about what I define as a "lot cooler". Keep in mind it gets really hot over Summer, so April is like a dream!

[identity profile] treeperson.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
If I do end up making it over there, I will definitely visit Melbourne! :D

Looking at the temperature data, I am now less afraid of melting. That looks like mid-May to mid-June here, which is when it starts warming up and gearing into summer. I'm sure I'd be able to manage.

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Melbourne is way cooler than everywhere else, except Tasmania, obviously. You'll be fine! It'll just be the warmer temperatures for you a month earlier!

Visit! Visit! :P

[identity profile] treeperson.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
I want to! But money! D: I am saving but I make no guarantees.

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I know. :( *crosses fingers for you*

[identity profile] freakingcrups.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT THE HELL? WHY HAVEN'T I SEEN THIS YET?!?!?!?1 I soooooo need to see this! They are all so damn adorable! I love Toby already and I've only seen the preview!

"You're not out yet?"

"As if, everyone thinks I'm straight."
LOL

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
IT'S REALLY GOOD!

[identity profile] melusinahp.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
That looks AMAZING. omg. I hope they show it in the UK eventually.

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? Pretty sure they will!

Is this it? Or maybe this is the promo version or something? The actors look different.

[identity profile] saintgilbert.livejournal.com 2012-02-09 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think maybe that was the pitch or the short film it's based on? It definitely follows the plot of the first episode. One of the actors, the guy playing Fab, is the same, but the others are different, yeah. I think the jokes in the (updated, I guess) T.V series are better too, maybe!
